2023 Earth's Bounty Oral History Project

Earth's Bounty in Iowa Then & Now.png

The Knoxville Public Library is excited to announce their participation in the oral history project "Earth's Bounty in Iowa: Then and Now." This project is spearheaded by the State Library of Iowa, with the aim of recording people talking about their firsthand experiences growing up on an Iowa farm and working the land. The interviews will lbe posted on the Iowa Heritage Digital Collections website, along with transcripts. You can listen to several recorded interviews here.

We're interested in your unique stories: whether you grew up on a farm but now live and work in town, worked a farm as an adult, or still farm. Interviewees will be asked the same set of eight questions (examples: "How did your family come to live on a farm in Iowa? What kind of crops did your family grow? What is your favorite story about growing up on a farm?". Interviews will be conducted at the Knoxville Public Library, and will take up to 45 minutes. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about the variety of experiences of our farming community and to preserve our history. For more information, or to schedule an interview, email Adult Services Librarian Heather Libby at hlibby@knoxville.lib.ia.us.
